
The campus is located at Valiamala,about 25 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city, on the way to the famous hill resort of Ponmudi. The sitemap has two campuses planned spread over a total area of around 100 acres situated close to the foot hills of Sahyadri ranges. At present, the Academic campus which also houses the student hostels is nearing completion.
Academic Wing
The institute provides full-fledged infrastructure of international standards to develop an excellent academic and research atmosphere. Modern environment friendly buildings of unique architecture merge well with the surrounding forest area. The academic activities spread across four blocks – Aerospace, Sciences, Avionics and Interdisciplinary. host all the seven departments. The Academic blocks are equipped with spacious lecture halls and well-designed research and curriculum laboratories. The Academic blocks also house the offices of the faculty members and research scholars. An imposing Library building is centrally located. IIST also has an Astronomical Observatory situated on the roof top of the Sciences block
Administrative Wing
Offices of the Director, Deans and Registrar are centrally located in the arc-shaped elegant Administrative block. All the administrative offices are housed in this block.
Residential Wing
IIST is planned to be a fully residential campus with all facilities. Presently, the residential wing for the students is complete. The faculty and staff residential campus along with the stadium and sports complexes will be taken up in the next phase of construction. The campus has 11 hostels and two mess halls for the students. There is a Medical Centre with qualified doctors and nurses which operates 24 x 7. An ambulance is available in the campus for emergencies. Tie up with a nearby premier hospitals ensures that all students are provided excellent medical attention when required The campus is self sufficient with a bank, ATM outlet, cafeteria and eatery joints. Adequate security arrangements are in place to ensure a secured campus Proper local bus connectivity is available to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. Apart from this, IIST offers transport facility for the movement of faculty and staff. Students are also provided transport facility to and from the city during holidays and weekends. Rain water harvesting is another important initiative at IIST in making the campus eco-friendly

IIST also has a satellite campus located at Ponmudi hill station, which presently houses a climate observatory. IIST has a fully residential campus for students and caters to the needs of more than 1000 students. The campus houses residential blocks, mess, sports and recreational facilities, banking and medical facilities; in addition to the academic and administrative blocks

Facilities
The campus houses separate hostels for boys and girls, offering comfortable accommodation with essential amenities, recreational areas, and common rooms. To promote physical fitness and overall development, the campus offers indoor and outdoor sports facilities. This includes a football ground, cricket field, basketball and volleyball courts, badminton courts, table tennis rooms, a gymnasium, and jogging tracks. How to Reach
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is located in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram on the way to the famous Ponmudi Hills. IIST campus is adjacent to the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) of ISRO.

Directions
- From the Central Bus Station, Thampanoor (in front of Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station) take a bus to Vithura or Valiamala. Alight at 16th Mile Stone / ISRO Junction / Pathinaaram Kallu Stop. Follow sign boards to reach IIST campus. Last bus to Vithura from the Central Bus Station is around 9:30 p.m.
- Alternatively, board a bus from Thampanoor or East Fort Bus Station (around 1 km from Thampanoor) to Nedumangadu. From Nedumangadu, frequent buses are available for ISRO junction. Auto rickshaws are also available from Nedumangadu to IIST (this would cost anywhere between Rs. 50 – 100).
- It may take a little more than an hour to reach IIST from Thiruvananthapuram city under normal traffic conditions.
- Bus fare would be approximately Rs.20 per person from Thampanoor to IIST.
- Prepaid autos and taxis are available from the Central Railway Station (approx Rs. 300 for an auto and Rs.600 for a taxi).
- Route to be followed: Thampanoor/Central Railway station or East Fort – Kowdiar – Peroorkada – Nedumangad – Karipoor - ISRO Junction – IIST.
- From the Airport it would be advisable to reach East Fort or Thampanoor and then follow the information given above for buses.
- Prepaid Taxis are available at the Airport and can be availed. The cost would be anywhere between Rs. 600 – Rs. 750.
