Hearty Congratulations to Prof. A Chandrasekar for bagging the prestigious Astronautical Society of India Award for the year 2014 for his contributions in the field of Space Sciences.
Astronautical Society of India (ASI) is a professional society set up in 1990 serving for the promotion of astronautics and space in the country through dissemination of knowledge and information related to the subject. It has instituted awards to recognize talented scientists and engineers who have made outstanding achievements in their life time career and, significant contributions in different areas of astronautics, namely; Rocket and related technology, Spacecraft and related technology, Space sciences and applications and Space systems management.
The various categories of ASI awards are
Aryabhata Award (any one of the four areas)
Astronautical Society of India (ASI) Award (each one of the four areas)
ISRO-ASI Award (each one of the four areas)
Space Gold Medal Award (each one of the four areas)
ISRO-ASI Best Women Scientist Award (any one of the four areas)
ISRO-ASI Young Scientist Award (any one of the four areas)
ISRO-ASI Team Achievement Award (any one of the four areas)
All the above awards winners are selected annually based on two high level expert committee’s recommendations. The Space Sciences and Applications ASI award goes to Prof. A Chandrasekar of Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvanathapuram for the year 2014.
